Ovata Form I by Smith & Brooks

Sweeping all the way from the regions of Melbourne, down through South East Australia, Eucalyptus Ovata can be found deep into the forests of Tasmania. Also known as Swamp Gum, it forms one of the key habitat trees and food sources for Koala populations just outside of Melbourne. It has uniquely oval leaves that give this unassuming native a sense of welcoming and openness.

Ovata Form I has been created as a natural bouquet of new sapling foliage.  As if just scooped up from the forest floor, it is cradled by a ribbon of claret and draped with fawn tendrils. Ovata Form I’s red and light brown tones draw on the colours of new growth.

Ovata Form I is part of the Virid Dream collection and has been hand embroidered with organic undyed cotton. These wonderful natural threads trail beyond the bounds of the Australian oak frame giving the piece a modern earthy, textural finish.

The original artwork comes framed in a natural Australian oak float frame, ready to hang. The frame size of the work is 93.2cm x 63.2cm x 5.5cm. With the threads overhanging the oak frame the total hanging height of the work becomes 80cm.
