Port Chaos in Ambers – Cities by Water Series No 2 by Meg Shaw – I use environmentally friendly, Australian made acrylic paints and recycled wood for frames wherever possible.

This is a bold and original abstract that is a textured impression of a city port lit up at night. It’s one of a series of my paintings which explores the relationship between cities and water. In this piece, I’ve tried to create the drama, busy atmosphere and chaotic visuals of the light and line seen at a port in action at night time.

Whenever I visit a city, there’s usually a river, port or harbour close by. Years ago I travelled into Melbourne, weekdays while studying, and would often walk beside the Yarra River to meditate. Other times I’d make my way to Station Pier in Port Melbourne to take in the atmosphere. Similarly, other cities around the world offer the same experiences. Historically, this theme has been a favourite of many artists. ‘Port Chaos’ wasn’t created to depict any particular city or port, but is a work of my imagination, with a merging of urban/dock shapes, light and reflections.

This painting is an acrylic and gesso painting on board, created almost entirely with palette knives. It’s ready to hang in a black frame – measuring approximately 96 x 66 x 4 cm. Please note, the frame has been made from recycled pine and, therefore may have some minor imperfections. My choice of acrylics are environmentally friendly and Australian made. The dominant colours are shades of ambers, white, purple, blue, aqua and black.

The photos show ‘Port Chaos’ in situ (please note – virtual settings, only), close-ups and a photo of the framed painting. It will be posted to you inside a crate with recycled bubble wrap and recycled cardboard. As I live in rural Tasmania now, please allow a little more time for delivery. Thank you.
