This is a portrait of a bride – my mother. I love her slightly uneven smile. She told me that her wedding day was during a heat wave; everyone was sweltering and in those days there was no air-con. Looking through the album, you would never know; my mother looked cool and composed, and the dress she wore was stunning. I still have her wedding crown. I painted the image in black and white on natural veneer board as a reference to the age of the original image.
