Portrait of JOCUM Missionary by Bethany Massey
The story
In 2018 I took a short term missions trip to Brazil to assist some missionaries there. This portrait was from the time I spent in the Brazilian Amazon with JOCUM (Called YWAM in Australia). I was at the home of a woman living in a remote village in the jungle, accessible only by boat. A group of us were sitting on the floor in the entryway of the house, when I snapped the reference photograph that this drawing was based off.
It’s a combination of charcoal, conte and graphite on paper. In some places the graphite is added over top of the conte which has a metallic light effect. The drawing will change slightly depending on what angle you look at it due to the reflective nature of the graphite.
