‘The Return of Prehistory’ conjures a landscape at the edge of time—not merely a meditation on the past, but an imagining of a future in which the Earth resumes its ancient rhythms, teeming with tectonic vitality. The work interrogates our cultural notion of “prehistory” as something buried in the past, proposing instead its cyclical return—triggered not by natural evolution, but by anthropogenic catastrophe.

Here, I employ a fluid, gestural approach to paint application. The visible brushstrokes, sweeping across the canvas, create a sense of movement and energy. The layering of paint emphasizes the texture, each stroke contributing to the overall sense of depth and organic flow. Contrasting light and dark tones enhances this sense of depth, allowing certain areas to recede into shadow while others seem to emerge from the surface. This interplay between light and dark intensifies the visual experience, creating an almost three-dimensional quality.

This work thrives on its energetic abstraction and emphasis on texture, offering a non-representational, yet deeply evocative visual experience. It’s a piece that speaks less to specific imagery and more to the visceral impact of color, form, and motion, creating a vibrant, almost tactile experience for the viewer. The piece feels alive, as if in constant transformation, capturing the essence of natural forces at play—such as the winds, rivers, or mountains in motion. The harmonious balance between the cool and warm colors suggests both a calmness and an underlying intensity, creating a multifaceted emotional experience.
