Race to Lord Howe by Geoff Hargraves

This oil painting is of a Beneteau 47.7 yacht competing in the Gosford to Lord Howe Island race.
As we neared Lord Howe island, our tack took us on a heading towards Balls Pyramid which can be seen on the horizon. Our next tack would allow us to approach the Island, and the celebrations of a landfall after several days at sea.
I have competed in this race 3 times, each time on this yacht Kioni.
If you have been to Lord Howe, you will know it as a paradise, if you haven’t, then you should consider it.
Flying there is much quicker, but nothing beats the land fall of an island from a yacht. Oil paint on a cradled wood panel. 2 cm sides painted black. Wire across the back to hang, ( unframed)
