Red River Gums 2 Walgett by Kathryn Fenton – Expressionist River Gum Landscape in mixed media.  On a five day plein air trip to Western NSW, the town of Walgett provided stunning subject matter with their Red River Gums straddling wide stretches of river..
The trees distinctive smooth white satin boughs writhing into the skies have a magic reflective quality enhanced by the rivers they grow in.
Often a favourite subject by artists for over a century, Kathryn was particularly interested in capturing the light above all else, dancing around the trunks, water and hills behind.

“There was such a lilting rhythm going on with the arc of the gums mimicked in the gentle flow of the river, so I used multi layered brush strokes and a pastel palette to indicate the energy and  bleached nature of the Australian Bush”.
This mixed media work in oils and acrylics is painted on a gallery style canvas ready to by hung..
