Reflections at Nobbys by fine art photographer Peter Masters – The beautiful Nobbys beach that exists today at Newcastle was once a channel through to the harbour and the promontory was once an island. Aboriginal legend has it that a kangaroo, while trying to escape a hunting party, swam to the island and hid deep in the rocks. The movements of that kangaroo account for the instability and the falling rocks that still result. Filling in the space to the island to create a breakwater has resulted in a beach of sweeping beauty. At low tide the sand is a wonderland of reflections. While driving back to Newcastle from Nelson Bay I spotted this cloud parading slowly down the harbour towards Nobbys. It reminded me of a towering snow cone and by luck the tide was way out. These reflections are the result.
