Rhododendrons by Maureen Finck – The inspiration for my rhododendron landscape is a special place for me, the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden in the Adelaide Hills.

We have many beautiful national parks and gardens. However this one is unique. The filtered light and wetter location suits plants from temperate climates which are difficult to grow on the Adelaide Plain, including rhododendrons.

Most species of rhododendron are native to eastern Asia and the Himalayan region. Amongst the native Australian flora there are tree ferns, as well as exotic cultivated plants from cool climates including Rhododendron, Magnolia and the National Species Rose Collection.

I missed the Magnolia in flower this year, but will be sure to catch it in 2023.
