Ripples in the Sand by Carol Forster

This sculptural bowl is part of a series based around the coastal landscapes, we enjoy in Australia.  For me, the contrasts of light and shade in this piece, evoke a memory of my many walks along the beaches on the Sunshine Coast where I live.

Techniques used include wheelthrowing in fine translucent porcelain clay.   After the bisque firing, the porcelain surface has been waxed and then water etched, resulting in the textural surface giving a feeling of sand ripples.   When held to the light, the translucency of some of the etched areas is revealed. The high fired porcelain clay is watertight and can be used as a vase or bowl.

Ripples in the Sand is an original, ceramic sculptural bowl.
