I love the woodlands with their tall eucalypts, flowering wattles and whispering casuarinas. I like the way they let in the sun and much prefer this habitat to the rainforests, which I find a little oppressive.

The Habitats > Woodlands paintings are watercolours on cotton paper. Besides using my paint brushes, I make marks with the leaves, grasses, seeds, lichen and twigs I find as I wander through the forests.

This one is Robin 1. It’s inspired by the beautiful Scarlet Robin that would visit us each day at Bruny Island Quarantine Station. Its vivid colours would flash through the trees and then it would land on the clothes line right outside our kitchen window.
