Additional Information

The Beast Awakes – surreal retro sci fi painting by Jane Ianniello 92cm x 76cm x 3.8cm. It is an original painting on high quality stretched canvas with a sturdy pine frame. Ready to hang. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Beast Awakes is inspired by the paranoia and drama of Hollywood sci fi movies of the 50s. The woman in the painting is Hedy Lamarr. I have appropriated and transformed a publicity still  and placed her in the incongruous setting of a scene from the 1953 science fiction movie The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. When an atomic blast in the arctic frees a 140 million-year-old dinosaur from the ice, the beast heads to New York, raining devastation on the terrified city.  The resulting painting is designed to amuse and intrigue the viewer.

I am Jane Ianniello, a well-known Brisbane artist and I have been finalist for all the major prizes for the past few years – Lethbridge 10,000, Rotary Art Spectacular, Moreton Bay Art Awards, Noosa Art Award, Stanthorpe Art Prize. I have also exhibited at various Brisbane and Gold Coast galleries.
