Seafront Cottages by Nicola Cowie

This painting is an abstract landscape depicting a coastal village. Loosely based on villages in the North of Scotland sketched during my last visit.

The dramatic coastline drops away steeply in places where small villages are nestled in the sheltered bays. The houses, hills and clear skies are depicted in a stylized way with washes of loose and in places heavier watercolours and all held together by a framework of delicate ink linework which gives a stained glass effect.
