Shelly Beach Trio by Carol Forster

This sculptural form is handmade in fine porcelain clay.

I live near the beach and love to collect bits and pieces of shells from the shoreline. On taking them back to my studio I make plaster moulds of the individual tiny shells. These are then used to create a slab of shells from which I take a single latex mould. For your interest, I can supply a link to a video of this process upon purchase.

This small sculpture has been handbuilt in fine porcelain clay. I have chosen to make this bowl in porcelain as the name, porcelain in English, comes from the old Italian porcellana (cowrie shell) because of its resemblance to the translucent surface of the shell.
