Shock of Colour – Forest Floor Series No 5 by Meg Shaw – This is a large, mixed media, negative space painting on yupo paper. I’ve used a brightly coloured ink base, then worked white paint around multiple leaf shapes. A normal painting is done in positive space, but negative space paintings give an interesting and different perspective. I tried to create movement by laying out the leaves in a sunray display and outlining them with a white pen. Along with the strong colours, this piece would make a bold statement in your home.

‘Shock of Colour’ can be hung in either portrait or landscape orientation, depending on your choice. It also has space allowance for trimming the paper when framed. (To protect your art, please frame behind glass.)

It is inspired by the many leaf covered forest floors I’ve walked on throughout the years. My eyes are often directed downwards to appreciate the shapes of fallen, nibbled and jagged gum leaves. In this painting, however, I’ve used imagined colours.

The photos show the whole negative space painting in landscape and portrait orientation, close-ups and situ scenes. Please note: the situ shots are virtual and meant to show what the artwork might look like hanging, framed on a wall.

‘Shock of Colour’ comes with a certificate of authenticity and can be sent directly to you by Auspost in a cardboard tube. As I live in rural Tasmania now, please allow a little more time for delivery.
