Silent Dusk by Meg Shaw – This mixed media painting is an original, contemporary landscape that is both semiabstracted and somewhat naïve. The inspiration is a mix of remembered and imagined images from arid parts of Australia, plus colourful sunsets. My intuitive approach to my art makes connections between the environments above and below the earth, along with intangible themes. ‘Silent Dusk’ has an atmospheric stillness feel and the eye-catching look is colourful and contrasting.

‘Silent Dusk’ has been painted on stretched canvas using acrylic paints, inks and charcoal. Brushes, palette knives, dabbing rags and my fingers were used to create a layered and textured piece. The surface has been sealed with a lacquer finish for protection. It measures approximately 94 x 94 x 4 cm and it’s framed in Tasmanian Oak. For care, wipe gently with soft cloth and keep out of direct sunlight.

The accompanying photos show the painting in full, in close-ups, in (virtual) situ and in various stages of the painting process. There’s also an image of a section of the Tasmanian Oak frame. As always, my Australian landscapes are painted with respect to First Nations people and country.
