Simplified Still Life by Emma Kelly

This artwork depicts a simple image of flowers in a vase.  The background is sky blue and garden green in various hues .  The vase is a dark, electric blue with pink flowers as well as circular yellow flowers on green stems. What makes this artwork unique is its simple shapes. Also each shape is outlined with thick black lines to make them stand-out.  This painting in heavily influenced by Margaret Preston who uses block prints for her work.

This painting is a one-off, original stand-alone painting.  Overall the painting invites the onlooker to look at color and strong shapes in a different way with the use of contrast, thick black lines and textured highlights.

The painting is 61cm height x 46cm width.  It is on canvas board and unframed.
