Sink or Swim by Sue Hill

This idea for this painting came to Sue while washing dishes at her kitchen sink. Such a mundane chore and she thought about ways of enlivening the scene. She sketched the scene and added the small people depicted using charcoal. The scene is like an indoor pool with the characters depicted so much smaller than in real life. The fork in the foreground leads the eye into the focal point, (the floating woman) and breaks the horizontal line in the foreground. The man sits against the handwash tub reading his book and an excited child throws a ball into the water and the dog is barking at all the action., especially the flow of water from the tap.
Sue has used charcoal and acrylic paint on this canvas. It is sealed with a medium and the edges are painted black. The painting is signed on the back and it is wired and ready to hang.
