Introvert Extrovert is an original painting expressing the importance and beauty of trees. Here, this east Kimberley Boab tree is positioned so that its branches stretch almost to the very edge of the canvas. It is unencumbered by land, leaf or fruit and evokes a sense of movement or dance. This ancient being is at the end of an extraordinary life and is passing into an alternative realm – blissful and sacred. The artist is interested in tree forms as symbols of life experiences including spirituality. On the left side the branches curve inwards while on the right they reach outward – one tree, two halves – the introvert and the extrovert. The artist spent some years in the East Kimberley traversing the country around Broome and Fitzroy Crossing, where she met many Boabs.
