I love the woodlands with their tall eucalypts, flowering wattles and whispering casuarinas. I like the way they let in the sun and much prefer this habitat to the rainforests, which I find a little oppressive.

The Habitats > Woodlands paintings are watercolours on cotton paper. Besides using my paint brushes, I make marks with the leaves, grasses, seeds, lichen and twigs I find as I wander through the forests. This one is Snake 3. Snakes are endlessly fascinating – a combination of beauty and terror.
