Sun Glitter VI by Bruce Peebles – finalist in Petite Pieces 2021, draws inspiration from his travels through The Whitsundays and North Queensland, translating the fleeting brilliance of sunlight on water into a vibrant abstract expression.

The work captures the natural phenomenon of “sun glitter”—sparkling light formed as sunlight reflects across rippled water, creating countless shimmering points that shift with every movement of the waves. This ever-changing play of reflection is expressed here through layered circles of warm oranges and reds from the setting sun, balanced with cooler mauves and blues of the fading light.

Peebles’ technique captures both the precision and unpredictability of nature: light as it flickers, fragments, and reforms into a living rhythm across the surface of the canvas. Sun Glitter VI invites the viewer to pause within this moment of luminous movement, to feel both serenity and vitality held in balance.
