Tess – retro pulp magazine cover painting by Jane Ianniello
It is an original acrylic painting on high quality stretched linen canvas with a sturdy pine frame. Ready to hang. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Tess is a painting inspired by the detective magazine covers of the 1930s – it shows a women from the 1800s being pursued by bloodhounds and a police officer. It reminded me of Tess of the D’Urbervilles from the Thomas Hardy novel – and her fate as a symbolic pagan sacrifice at Stonehenge. I added the words “Beautiful and Doomed” to convey the sense of fate and tragedy.
I am Jane Ianniello, a well-known Brisbane artist and I have been finalist for all the major prizes for the past few years – Lethbridge 10,000, Rotary Art Spectacular, Moreton Bay Art Awards, Noosa Art Award, Stanthorpe Art Prize. I have also exhibited at various Brisbane and Gold Coast galleries. I will courier in sturdy cardboard box.
