The Blue Robe – This figurative work is painted in an Impressionist style and part of an ongoing series using my favourite model, Carmen.

After doing a series of Life Class drawings I progressed onto painting her in poses reminiscent of the moody lit Chiroscuro works of art of the 1600’s.

Carmen has very enigmatic, wistful features and I wanted to capture strong light modeling on key areas of the body coming out of deep shadows.

The Blue Robe, a chinese blue silk coat has quite a history and of great sentimental value to the model and will feature in more paintings in the series.
