The Extroverted Arborist by Sam Askin

I’ve never brought nature physically into my work before, but this painting certainly called for it!

This piece is of one of the cheeky black cockatoos that hang around in our sandpaper fig every winter, chewing off branches and making their presence well and truly known, with no agenda but their own enjoyment, and tree pruning! For my partner working from her office, these guys are NOT welcome company when concentration is needed!

So, I thought I would bring their favourite thing to my artistic interpretation of them… Directly painting and impressing the leaves of the fig on the canvas, and keeping a real world connection forever in this artwork. Cocky certainly seems satisfied as it struts along its newly stripped branch!
