‘The Gathering’ by Meg Shaw

Reduced price. Was $1050. Now $735.

‘The Gathering’ is an original, abstract, contemporary landscape on stretched canvas, measuring approximately 95 x 49 x 4 cm after framing in plantation Tasmanian Oak. It’s a mixed media piece, using environmentally friendly acrylics as well as, inks and charcoal. The colours are earth hues, typical to our Australian environment.

My approach was to focus on lines, texture, movement and details. My tools were a variety of brushes and palette knives, but it’s common for me to use my fingers and hands, as well.

The inspiration for this painting came from a mixture of impressions and memories, after various walks through a variety of diverse Australian environments. At times (and only in my imagination) I have felt as if trees might be mobile – moving and gathering in crowds, to mingle and talk. I have also felt they may have different personalities. In ‘The Gathering’ I hoped to give a light-hearted impression of a kind of tree convention. Their dynamics would certainly be interesting and their conversations could be insightful, I’m sure. In fact, in recent times, scientists have come to realised that trees are social and communicate with one another through underground networking.

When I paint, I have a deep feeling for our ancient land and pay due respect to Australia’s First Nations peoples. I like to listen to a story as the work progresses and I hope that people who view my work, hear a story as well. As with all my paintings, ‘The Gathering’ is atmospheric with a string of intangible messages.

The photos show the whole painting, close-ups, frame and situ shots. Please note, the situ photos show what the painting might look like hanging on a wall.

‘The Gathering’ will be posted to you inside a case, protected with recycled bubble wrap and wrapped in recycled cardboard. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity. As I live in rural Tasmania now, please allow a little more time for delivery. Thank you.
