The Great Gay Elgin of the Outback – The title of this painting ‘The Great Gay Elgin of the Outback’ was inspired by a encounter and friendship with a transgender man back in the 50ties ..who was a woman. A “Hermorphodite’. We met in the South Australia in the notorious steel town of Whyalla. This place was a brutal hard working hard drinking working class town.
He’s was truely a decent person .. alas he worked in cattle industry and suffered badly from work place abuse … bullying harassment on a massive scale. He ended up in jail serving 10 years for manslaughter ..issues of self defence due to a attempted rape and bad legal representation .. The narrative is so important in my work .. it’s not just a pretty picture..?
