The Lily Pond by Meg Shaw – exclusive to Art Lovers Australia.

The beauty of waterlilies at Hobart Botanical Gardens is the inspiration for this fluid art piece.

Alcohol ink is normally vibrant in colour. However, I toned down these hues to create a softer impression, using mauves, lemons, pinks, turquoise and greens.

The technique for alcohol ink is tricky and it takes time to perfect. Even then, there’s a mix of patience, skill and happy accidents involved in the final outcome.

The composition is formed by movement. I tilt the paper or use puffs of air (often a hair-dryer) to achieve the effect. Occasionally, I use cotton buds for lines and spots. I love working in this medium as it is quite mesmerising watching the inks flow and it allows me to zone out and play.

‘The Lily Pond’ has been shown in virtual situ to give an idea of how it may look in your home and there are close-up photos to show details. Keep away from direct light to maintain the integrity of the art work.

‘The Lily Pond’ needs framing behind glass and would look great mounted using a wide mat. It will be posted to you packed in a cardboard tube. As I live in rural Tasmania now, please allow a little more time for delivery. Thank you.

Please note the situ photos are virtual and meant to show what the artwork might look like hanging on a wall.
