The wonderful colour and rituals of India intrigued me after a visit to that country. I couldn’t wait to put my sketches and memories on canvas on my return to my studio.
This particular ritual of bathing in the River Ganges happens daily. All walks of life share the slippery steps to bathe, clean teeth, wash, wash clothing, and even drink the holy water.
The ritual of cremation (the Ghats) also occurs on the banks of the Ganges. It is the holy of all the rivers in India, said to be the heart of the people.
I felt very privileged to be able to witness this phenomenon.
This painting, in oil and acrylic is my homage to the Ganges.
