Painting inspired by ‘Jason’:

What struck me when interviewing Jason (*name changed to protect the identity of this person) was how much he has fought his way back from an incredibly dark time in his life.  Jason’s favourite place is the Springbrook National Park.  He finds it immensely calming and grounding to trek through the forest, losing time.  The skyline is this piece is an interpretation of a section of the Springbrook skyline.  The fifteen tree trunks in the piece represent the 15 years that he held his secret tight.  The use of dark tones that transition into colour represent Jason’s journey from anger, pain, fear and depression into living with optimism and finding his way back to a life that hopeful and with more serenity that he imagined he would have.  The blue of the sky was used as this colour makes Jason feel so very happy.  Jason is a testament to our ability to hold onto that tiny spark of self, and the grit and resilience of the human spirit.  I am humbled to have heard is story and represent him.

Colour Inspiration:

  • Blue: trust, truth, loyalty, calm, safe, protection
  • Green: hope, renewal, balance, growth, harmony
  • Black: power, strength, control, holding onto information
  • Grey: gentle, give inner strength, reserved, subdued.

The Soldier

I was trained to fight
to defend with honour.
Yet, there is no honour amongst thieves.
Thieves who steal power.
Steal the life blood of your soul.

My strength, my power, defined me.
Until it was taken, ripped from my core.

Devoid of light.

But
I will continue to fight.
For my life.

A life that holds less fear, less pain, less anger.
A life that holds forgiveness,
with tendrils of joy reaching every corner of my soul.
A life lived embracing simple pleasures.
A life where I fight for those who are where I was.

I know them.
I feel them.
I can lead them.
