The Streets Were Paved With Gold by Mandy McGuire – My original painting is a narrative image about the importance and beauty of trees. The aged magnolia tree has its roots embedded in a block or pathway that is suspended in a changing sky. It could be a possible future or an alternative reality. Either way, tree reminds that nature has resilience, and that even under extraordinary circumstances it can survive or even thrive. It is the golden pathway that is falling into ruin. I use quality oils painted on stretched fine linen. My ideas come from many years of mentally collecting imagery, otherwise known as daydreaming. My trees are well known characters taken from the landscape and repositioned in a situation to help the viewer to connect on an emotional and spiritual level, and to bring attention to the vital importance of trees and their role in our ecology.
