Three Clydes by Jo S. Stacey

“Three Clydes”
Winsor and Newton Griffin Alkyd Oils on Stretched Canvas
1000x1200mm
105×1205 with Australian warm brown floating frame.

My first success as an aspiring artist was to win a colouring in competition at 6 years of age and the prize was a ride on the famous DB Clydesdales. Well these are two of them. Jill van der Sande and Nick granted me the rights to paint this photo and it’s such an honour. I only found them after all these years because they advertised their beautiful book for sale and I contacted them to let them know the huge impact on me they and their horses had.
From Jill about the photo:
“It was taken in spring 1987 at Rukuhia near Hamilton! Dominion Breweries leased this property for our family when Nick became manager! Lloyd Brown, our groom is helping Nick, to work a paddock for for reseeding! The dog was our Dalmatian Clyde. We think (the horses are) Armagh and Fortune (NS).”
