INFLUENCE:

The Viking Ship was perhaps the greatest technical and artistic achievement of the European dark ages. These fast ships had the strength to survive ocean crossings while having a draft of as little as 50cm, allowing navigation in very shallow waters. Ships were an important part of Viking society, not only as a means of transportation, but also for the prestige that if conferred on her owner and skipper. Their ships permitted the Vikings to embark on their voyages of trading and exploration.

Living by the bay I am witness to many yacht races and regattas. I have never seen these Vikings ships out on the high seas so decided to do some research on these massive beasts an put my findings into a canvas. I imagined watching these beauties come between the heads, their large tall masts and massive body of boat bouncing as they race to the finish line churning up the waters creating beautiful foam washes as they pass.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Specifications: Quality acrylics used giving long lasting rich pigmentation/lustre. Designed on acid free environmentally unbleached cotton duck, triple coated with universal primer and gallery style folded corners. Protective Matte Varnish applied to protect work. The surface of the painting has a slight textured surface encouraging the viewer to touch and feel the art.
