‘Through the trees, Burrumbeet’ by Kate Wise -A little beauty inspired by views of Lake Burrumbeet near Ballarat. The hills in the background are near Waubra. In this atmospheric study, Kate captures the essence of the place on a wintery day when the sky is grey and the clouds scud quickly across the sky allowing the sun to create fleeting moments of brightness. Creating this work reminded Kate of the early depictions of Lake Wendouree in Ballarat when it was a swamp surrounded by blue hills, plains and bush land. Kate is influenced by the work of Eugene von Geurard who painted in this area during the gold rush, highlighting the vast open spaces and big skies. ‘Through the trees, Burrumbeet’ is framed in a natural pine float frame, ready to hang and presented with a signed Certificate of Authenticity
