‘Transiently’ by Meg Shaw.

This artwork has been painted with respect to Arrernte people. It is a contemporary, expressionistic, Australian landscape.

The inspiration for the painting came from remembered images of Arrernte Country (Central Australia). I’ve used strong colours, layers and texture to give an impression of this rugged, beautiful desert. The composition has subtle, horizontal lines, as this is how I often see our ancient environment.

I usually paint atmospheric works and in this painting, I’ve attempted to show the filmy, hazy visual effect experienced in the heat of our deserts. The effect is solid and bold, but transient and delicate at the same time. My intention was to connect the sky, the earth and the vegetation, so there is no clear separation of any of the elements – they may even appear to merge. My hope is that this work opens up your imagination to not only see the image, but to  feel the atmosphere as well – perhaps even hear sounds. The symbolism of ‘Transiently’ is therefore open-ended, allowing viewers to interpret the painting as they see it.

Thank you to Hartini Gibson (US artist) for the following response to Transiently :

“Beautifully atmospheric and sensory. The mood lingers, whispering and echoing an ancient song and perhaps an ancient prayer in heavy stillness. The colors are so beautiful and linger with their contrasts and haunting essence.”

‘Transiently’ has been painted using Australian made, environmentally friendly acrylics, along with a variety of inks. The colours are warm to hot shades and I’ve used only palette knives, fingers and ink droppers as my tools. It has been worked on quality stretched canvas, is framed in black coated, recycled pine and is ready to hang. As the pine is recycled, there may be minor imperfections which adds to its character. The finished painting measures approximately 105.5 x 80 x 4 cm.

The photos show the finished painting, framed, close-ups, painting in progress and situ shots. Please note that the situ shots are virtual and meant to show what the painting might look like hanging on a wall.

‘Transiently’ will be sent via a courier with a certificate of authenticity. It will be placed in a protective crate, wrapped in recycled bubble wrap and packed in recycled cardboard. As I live in rural Tasmania now, please allow a little more time for postage. Thank you.
