On completing this painting, she asked her Instagram followers to give her words to describe it. Kate was interested in checking if people actually see what she is trying to create or have a different perspective. Her followers suggested these words: fog, spooky, ghost, stillness, reaching, calm and ethereal. Together they describe the wonderful atmosphere Kate has created in this large painting. She painted a softly gradated pale pastel sky and used a mix of brush strokes, palette knife and fluid paint pouring to represent the infinite textures of the branch. This painting is part of Kate’s ‘Treasure’ series which is her contribution to the long history of tree portraiture.
