Treasure, you’re always with me by Kate Wise reflects the endless inspiration she finds in her gum trees, her treasures. She has used a mix of brush strokes, palette knife and fluid paint pouring to represent the infinite textures of the trunk and branches of this river red gum. Harking back to her gum leaf and blossom paintings, Kate has given equal attention to the white negative spaces that become important shapes and patterns in the composition. There is also a glimmer of gold paint that allows the branching trunk to shine as you view the work from different angles. This painting is part of Kate’s ‘Treasure’ series which is her contribution to the long history of tree portraiture. ‘Treasure, you’re always with me’ offers nature inspired contemporary minimalism that is suitable for a large wall.
