Tree 10 by Mandy McGuire –  in a quality museum style frame, Tree 10 – from the series of 15 – includes a cast porcelain twig, the actual twig originating from a dead tree, one of many, on the vast cattle station called Cuddapan (which has now been absorbed by other huge cattle stations west of Windorah, Queensland). The other parts are ‘found objects’ that I collected at some point in the last 20 or so years – ordinary and unimportant, yet interesting enough for me to claim them.

The series is essentially autobiographical, symbolising the time spent at Cuddapan, as well as the spiritual connection I have formed with these kinds of hard landscapes over the years…since traversing such places with my siblings and parents as a young person. At Cuddapan there was/is a stark beauty, grief, and a visual emptiness that stirs a longing. These small assemblages are each a phrase from the book of longing.
