Additional Information

Tree 13 by Mandy McGuire –  from a series of 15, includes a cast porcelain twig, the actual twig originating from a dead tree, one of many, on the vast cattle station called Cuddapan (which has now been absorbed by other huge cattle stations west of Windorah, Queensland). The other parts are ‘found objects’ that I collected at some point in the last 20 or so years – ordinary and yet interesting enough for me to claim them.

The Tree series is essentially autobiographical, symbolising my time spent at Cuddapan, as well as the spiritual connection I have formed with these kinds of hard landscapes over the years, since traversing such places with my siblings and parents as a young person. At Cuddapan, there was a stark beauty, grief, and a visual emptiness that stirs a longing. These small assemblages are each a phrase from the book of longing.
