Under the Surface – Humpback Whale by Anne Strambi – This oil painting is my impression of a whale just under the surface of the water.  I love the gentle appearance of these beautiful majestic creatures.

In beginning my quest to paint a whale I started by watching and taking notes from a tutorial by skilled artist Mark Waller. I then researched how to draw the shape of a whale and the details of their anatomy. After many drawings and experiments, I began this painting with oil paints and whenever I got lost I put it aside for a while to work on something more familiar! I finally got the courage to finish the painting, using an impressionist method so that the marks are loose and there is lots of thick paint. The painting is framed in a timber natural frame and ready to hang. The frame measures 66 cm x 49 cm.
