This girl has been in my studio about 6 months now. I got her out for a photoshoot at the weekend and understood why I hadn’t shared her with anyone yet.
She was painted in Waran, on Country for me right in the heart of sydney. And she was painted from my intuition and feeling memory of the past coupled with the visual spectacle of our native flora reclaiming parts of the concrete jungle around Dawes Point.
It felt really raw painting her then, and now 6 months on she feels like freeing a burden. I can’t stop progress, nor do I really want to: I’d certainly like to slow it down sometimes though. But these glimmers of fortitude and strength like this plant overthrowing its concrete master feel delightful instead of sad. Suppose it’s just the way you look at this. Perspective?
