We are all familiar with the wide view, classic pictures of Venice, but it’s also nice to slow down and look at the stunning details that are all over the city.

There is so much beauty in Venice that it is overwhelming – the only thing not to enjoy is the number of other people who also want to share the experience. But I’ve discovered even on a crowded day in summer, you can find quiet spots if you slip off by a side canal and allow yourself to get lost for a while. Sometimes I think the reflections are more interesting than the actual buildings. Closed doors conceal mysteries from centuries past.
