Waimamaku (tree fern waters)by Linda Kypriadakis – Â Drawing from Oceanic perspectives of spirituality and connection, Waimamaku (tree fern waters) explores concepts of water as a gateway between worlds and a place of belonging. Multiple layers of subtle glazing create depth and luminosity in this aerial perspective of water, evoking a sense of calm and inviting contemplation while reflecting the viewer who completes the work.
Working with water, acrylic paint, and various mediums on aluminium composite panel (ACP), Kypriadakis engages in a meditative dialogue with materials to create paintings that evoke stillness and invite slow looking. Her process involves an intuitive response to a body of water, embodying site-specific colours and light, bold first layers made with unconventional tools, followed by a meticulous, quietening process of multiple glazes and sanding back, to arrive at a luminous surface that appears as faintly recognizable yet unknowable.
Securely suspended off the wall by a custom-made French cleat, the painting appears to be floating off the wall with only its 2mm depth casting a fine shadowline. If desired this painting may also be framed. Ready to hang (French cleat supplied). Signature is hand engraved on rear of painting.
