Wallaby 1 by Lyn Graham

I love the woodlands with their tall eucalypts, flowering wattles and whispering casuarinas. I like the way they let in the sun and much prefer this habitat to the rainforests, which I find a little oppressive.

The Habitats > Woodlands paintings are watercolours on cotton paper. Besides using my paint brushes, I make marks with the leaves, grasses, seeds, lichen and twigs I find as I wander through the forests. This one is Wallaby 1. It’s inspired by the dozens of Bennetts wallabies that came out of the woodlands to graze in the paddocks of Bruny Island Quarantine Station each evening. During the day, when I walked through the bush, I sometiimes saw them basking in little sunny patches.
