‘Wild Things’  2025  by Jackie Moss

A pair of Wattlebirds feeding on Banksias

Forever inspired by the unique varieties and species of our Australian Native Flora; This artwork is inspired by the surroundings of my ‘home away from home’ in Inverloch on the Bass coast of Victoria.  Here, nature and wildlife is in abundance and the inspiration for this particular piece was straight out side my bedroom window.

Graceful and agile are the wonderful Wattlebirds that are frequent visitors in my garden!  I love watching them skilfully hanging and feeding on nectar from the native Grevilleas and Banksias. The Banksia Prionotes tree I planted has grown rapidly in a short time in the coastal environment providing a continual renewal of large bronze cones.  The wattlebirds often visit in pairs and seem to love trapezing the zig-zag leaves and feeding on the seeds and insects and surrounding flowers.

This painting paints a snapshot of these beautiful birds in their favourite habitat.  I have deliberately tried to capture the intricate tangle of leaves and the subtle colours of the Banksia leaf and underside.  It is such a beautiful harmony to observe!  Both a pleasure and challenge to photograph and interpret this scene in oils.

This painting is professionally framed in natural oak and ready to hang.

A unique, and beautiful addition to your living area or bedroom space
