Additional Information

This painting Wisteria and Roses has been inspired by move long love of these two beautiful flowers.

Wisteria is beautiful flowering plant that is native to China, Korea, Japan, and the Eastern United States.

Wisteria is loved for their wonderful springtime flowers and it’s deliciously scented flowers. It blooms for a very short time, but it is well worth the wait.

Adelaide’s Botanic Gardens has a wonderful Wisteria arbour.  In springtime it is one of my favourite places to visit, when the arbour becomes a tunnel of purple and white.

Medicinal use of Chinese Wisteria: The seed is diuretic. It is used in the treatment of heart ailments, however, these seeds are toxic unless boiled. The stems and flowers are also used in Chinese medicine, as garnishes for salads, or boiled and made into fritters. The leaves have been used as a tea alternative.

The rose is, according to fossil evidence, 35 million years old.

There are over three hundred species and thousands of cultivars.

Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America and north western Africa.

Rose petals are used for making perfumes, Rose hips are made into jams and jellies, brewed for tea, and rose hip seed oil is used in skin products.

Rose water is used in middle eastern and South Asian cuisine, especially in sweets.

In France petals are used to make rose syrup, and India to make a drink and also ice cream.

Medicinally rosehips are used for their vitamin C content and in Chinese medicine for stomach problems.

Adelaide’s Botanic Gardens also has a wonderful rose garden.
