Additional Information

Like many artists I am inspired by my environment, including the landscape, trees and flowers.

Paintings of the landscape can be traced back to the 4th century in China.  Although paintings from the earliest ancient and Classical periods included natural scenic elements, the landscape was often just a back drop for, e.g. a portrait.  The landscape as an independent genre did not emerge in the Western tradition until the Renaissance in the 16th century.

Landscape painting encompasses a variety of natural scenes including mountains, rivers, valleys, forests, fields, and coasts. This definition was expanded in the 20th century to include urban and industrial landscapes.

There is a growing tradition of abstract landscapes that developed from the middle of the 20th century onward
