Chris Winer’s works, whether figurative or landscape, endeavor to capture the emotional life of the subject, not only the physicality, using vibrant, luminous colour and strong brush work, transcending the persona or image presented to the outside world.
Colour is the focal point of Chris Winer’s works, rendering them tactical and fluid in a most beguiling manner. The vividness and luminosity invoke the emotional complexity and mystery of the subject.
Chris’s works should evoke feelings of desire, yearning and nostalgia.
A long-term painter Chris Winer draws his inspiration from life, whilst examining the complexities that arise when our sense of belonging is disrupted or challenged, which as a painter was indeed the case after a life changing medical incident meant Chris adapting and changing his art practice.
After suffering a stroke, the focus of Chris Winer’s work became about time and memory, how memories run, bleed, drip and join; how they shift with time and experience; how your memories of the past inform your future.
Working as a funeral celebrant forced Chris to focus on what you do with your time and what it has done to you.
Chris Winer has been fortunate to have work in private collections around the world and has exhibited in London at the Australian High Commission, as well as many solo and group exhibitions in Melbourne & Sydney, in commercial galleries, artist run gallleries and rental spaces.
