My studio sits on the edge of a forest in the Southern Highlands and is overflowing with a melange of vintage objects and fabrics, overripe fruit and jars of butterflies. The objects I paint are not just any objects, I am drawn to nostalgic everyday items, trinkets, clothing, precious things but ordinary things, imbued with memories of their lifetimes.
My paintings evolve very slowly over many transparent layers. I enjoy the slowness of painting. The revelation of the smallest details, discovering the intersections of shapes and lines, the layering of colours, painting is unlike most things, it can’t be rushed.
