I need to move studios and say goodbye to some special paintings. This one was originally $5550.

This large painting has a gentle palette that compliments the gentle nature of the lace pattern depicted. I love how the surface moves in and out of focus the blur contrasting the fine detail in the delicate cell-like lace. The big. The tiny. The sea. The surf wash and foam. The lace. The molecules. These things I think about and look at when I create these paintings. It can be viewed as miniscule cell life just as easily as dawn light through a lace curtain or an underwater garden with floating coral blooms. In this artwork I am looking at making connections between my microscopic cellular life-forms and man-made patterns. I utilized lace in the creation of surface of this work as it has this rich cellular feel as well as creating a powerful visual dynamic. The beautiful delicate designs in lace are created by a similar growth pattern to life itself. Both forms grow from one central point outwards, cell-by-cell, stitch by stich as do the paintings themselves, all growing organically from one starting point, each cell form popping out from the one before. I was thinking how beautiful this is, poetically and visually, but also how it is intrinsically connected to all forms of life. Jacquelyn Stephens is a Melbourne based artist who has been successfully exhibiting her paintings for over 20 years since completing a BFA in Painting at the Victorian College of the Arts. Over the years she has had several successful solo and group exhibitions in commercial galleries and artists run spaces. Her paintings can be seen in many media publications and are held in private collections worldwide. All paintings are varnished with Professional Quality Artists Varnish, once they have been photographed. This gives a protective surface and an exquisite sheen that really makes the colours powerful & eye-catching.
