About this painting

Aurora is about fellowship, friendship, community, togetherness.  Aurora is inspired by beach holidays in my youth. My family and friends would spend our summer holidays at the beach where we would play games, sit and talk for hours, spend evenings watching the sun go down and how the light reflected over the water and seascape before us. This is where I still love to be.

People in Aurora are not shown in much detail, they are essentially in silhouette.  Aurora conveys a closeness, a bond of friendship and fellowship. The brushstokes convey a movement in time, a mistiness – not quite clear. Memories of a previous time are captured. The viewer may see themselves in this painting. Perhaps they are central to a similar story like the lady in pink in the middle or a they identify with the figure in red of blue close by her side.

Inspiration

Aurora explores the themes of fellowship, friendship, community, memories, gestures and stances of people. How they convey their emotions, conversations, intensity through the stance and gestures. Painted using broad brush strokes in a semi-abstract way. Detail is not necessary for the actual people of these paintings You can read them from their body language, their shapes, the angle of the head.
